This guy was my favourite and I couldn't wait to get started on his face! I started with the same base mesh as the Sioux, just picked out and emphasised different facial features. I looove how he was turning out and it's a shame he wasn't finished off. Below you can see him bald and with hair...He has half a shaved head and I never got around to adding texture details to the shaved half so it looks a little eggy but I am still very happy with it! Haha he got given the nickname of "Jesus Skrillex" :p
I'm definitely going to have to throw myself back into some Zbrush work! I forget how much I love sculpting faces...24 February 2014
More Game Sculpting
Some of my game work
It's called iCL (International Combat League) and you can find more information and other design work here: iCL ModDB Page Production has currently stopped however and not sure what is happening in the future.
Anyway, I was working on character design and modelling. There were 3 initial character classes to be designed: Viking (heavy), Sioux (sniper) and Egyptian(medic). I worked up some rough ideas and sketches and developed them into the final chosen designs below:
The designs were finalized, but the artwork was left in it's rough stages so that we could push on with creating as much content as possible. The first character chosen to be modeled up was the Sioux class. I started with a load of really basic base models in 3D Studio Max which were then exported into Zbrush for detail modelling. The character model is getting on a bit now, so there are many things I would change if I could remake him now. Below are a few screenshots. This is the final detailed model in Zbrush for the basic Sioux design. (Cape and other extra bits were going to be left out for the initial release of the game) A close up of his face, which looking at it now could do with a lot more work! Once the sculpting was complete, it was back into 3D Studio Max to retop the original mesh. Pink parts are the bits that would be duplicated for texturing. Texturing isn't one of my strong points so I had a little help refining the diffuse map from other team members. Below you can see the almost finished diffuse texture and normal map. Ddo was also a big help in creating some of the grimy and dirt effects. Fantastic piece of software! A couple of in engine screenshots of him. This was sort of mid way through texturing just before we stopped working on the game. It was a great project to work on and it kept my modelling skills up after I had finished uni. Maybe one day it will get finished off :)9 February 2014
Some Work from Work!
I work for a company who are a toy, party and fancy dress importers. I mostly do product photography/image editing along with creating new artworks from existing product artwork. I help out with the catalogue at the end of the year and occasionally get to design new artwork.
This is one of the first new design pieces I got to do for them. They had existing pirate themed artwork and they wanted a new display box made up for little penny toys and bits and bobs.
These are the illustrations I did for the box along with a screenshot of the side of the final box.
All illustrations were hand painted in Photoshop. I had so much fun with these I wish I got to do more in this kind of style!
Moving on to some photography work...this is some of the image editing work I have to do from time to time.
In between Photo shoots, we make do with using work colleagues as models (I hope they don't mind me posting these :P) For these wig items as an example, I had to cut out and "photoshop" the wigs onto the real models faces, as well as doing some colour correction on a couple of the images.
So yeah, that's pretty much the more exciting parts of my work! Some of the more boring stuff involves making information labels, cutting out photos of products and making cutter guides for boxes. I quite enjoy the job, although would much prefer to be doing a lot more design work! I sometimes feel I get a bit lazy as the job isn't particularly challenging :PAnyway, sorry for my boring work filler post :D haha I am sorting through some of the Games Design work I did for a friend so will hopefully have a slightly more interesting post next time :)
